• Sod Lawns
  Most sod is a hybrid Bermuda grass. Bermuda goes dormant in the winter and lawns require over seeding in the fall as you desire a green winter lawn. This usually occurs around November 1st. During this period, the sod farms do not have sod available. If your landscaping is being installed within this time, we may not be able to install your sod immediately. In the fall and winter, sod is over seeded with rye grass when installed.
  
  Sod, as opposed to seed, is immediate and will make a huge impact on your project. Sod also does not have a pollination period that seed does, which can effect people with allergies.
  
  
• Tree Staking
  When installing your landscaping, Alexon Design and Landscaping will properly stake your trees according to the species. Some types come with a single stake from the nursery. Others will require double staking of lodge poles. Periodic re-tying or re-staking of your tree(s) is necessary to vigorous growth, as is proper watering, or a good pruning.
  
  Please note that double staking does not guarantee that the tree(s) will be secure from wind or rain damage. Alexon Design and Landscaping, does not warranty against tree loss due to wind or rain damage.
  
  
• Weed Control
  Weed control can be a never-ending task. You cannot eliminate the problem, but there are ways to contain it. Our strongest recommendation is to glance weekly throughout your yard to spot any un-wanted weeds. Spray with mild pre-emergent such as round-up two days in a row, and remove. If problem increases please consult your nursery professional for the appropriate brand and rate of application of pre-emergent.
  
  There are also contractors that apply weed control chemicals that offer as much as a six-month guarantee. We do not recommend the use of black plastic beneath your decomposed granite to control weeds. Plastic can create many other problems, including poor drainage, and generally becomes unsightly after a year or two.
  
  
• Frost Protection- Trees and Shrubs
  Alexon Design and Landscaping does not warranty against frost damage. A number of plants are susceptible to frost damage in the winter or during abnormally cold evenings. This damage can be fatal to your plants depending on temperature, duration of cold temperature, age and strength of the plant, wind and moisture. The deadliest condition is a cold frost following a warming trend. This usually occurs around January or February.
  
  Do not trim frost damage portions from trees or shrubs until after all danger from frost has passed, as the damage plant material protects the plant from more serious frost damage. In order to protect your plants from frost, there are many methods from which to choose. The simplest is to cover your plants with cloth or burlap. The use of non-porous materials such a plastic is not recommended. During winter, there are many articles in the papers and reports on the news about additional ways to prevent frost damage.
