Our Construction Process
You’ve signed the contract, now what happens?
- Sit back and relax knowing that you have hired a highly qualified contractor to create your outdoor environment. You will be in contact soon with our “client liaison” to go over the final and ever important details. With few exceptions, this meeting will be mandatory before scheduling your project. This service eliminates any surprises, and resets expectations for both parties. It also keeps us in communication during the “down time” between signing of contract and starting of your project.
- Our superintendents are on-site for your projects! From time to time, our supers will have to pick up material, and will leave the job site. But unlike our competitors, they are actually part of the crew. They will be your contact during construction, as well as your designer, and the owner of the company. The owner of the company visits every job site. You will also have a qualified foreman on the job site at all times.
- Another reminder. Alexon Design and Landscaping does not install on Fridays. We work (4) ten-hour days. We feel that we are more productive with that scheduling. This also allows us to work on Fridays in emergency situations, or to meet deadlines.
Generally speaking, installations occur in this order:
- Site Prep
- Masonry
- Decking / Patios
- Irrigation
- Trenching for Lighting
- Contouring (dirt work)
- Boulders
- Planting Material
- Lighting Fixtures
- Granite
- Sod
- Clean up
- Paint
Some Things to Keep in Mind
- Plants and Trees:
We use only the highest quality of plants selected and guaranteed from the top wholesale companies in Arizona. Some plants and trees may go into shock when moved from container to the ground. Most of these plants and trees come back and are very healthy after a short while. Our guarantee on plants and trees is 180 days; however, there are no warranties on annuals or ocotillos. Contractor shall not be liable for loss of plants, trees, or sod due to frost, wind damage, or vandalism.
- Flagstone:
Flagstone is a natural product that has certain shade variations, which are inherent in all flagstones. Flagstone may also have fossils, scaling, patchiness and other blemishes. The level of flagstone will vary and there may be some small areas that have flaked off. This is all part of the natural beauty of flagstone.
- Pavers:
Pavers are made from a concrete mold and vary in color. Tumbled pavers are made from the original mold and then put in a huge “clothes dryer” machine and become tumbled. Tumbled pavers have many imperfections that enhance the desired “old-world” look. Pavers drain well and do not require any deco-drains. Mortar sand is a vital component to locking in the paver patio, so sand can and will be visible. New sand applications may be required from time to time.
- Veneer Stone:
Veneer stone is a synthetic material that can really impact the look on hardscaping projects. There are many shapes, styles, and colors available. Because of this, (unless using a quick-stack style that requires no grout lines) the grout lines can and will vary in size. Alexon Design and Landscaping, unless instructed otherwise, will attempt to install 1/2” grout lines.
- Debris:
Waste management is a huge part of construction, and depending on your project, it can be quite expensive. Alexon Design and Landscaping offers three options. A rented dumpster (if allowed in your neighborhood) can be used for a 5% of total project cost. A professional clean up crew will be used every Friday or Saturday for a 3% of total project cost. Or you may opt to take care of your project debris yourself. An average job for Alexon Design and Landscaping will have 10-20 tons of debris.
- Irrigation Systems:
We guarantee the systems that we install, and will repair or replace any parts that we can be held liable for up to one year.
- If you should experience a water leak, a sprinkler head break or a valve that won’t shut off, simply turn off the water supply at the PVB. This is located at the main water supply on the outside of your house. Then, call your designer and leave a message that the water has been shut off. He/she will take care of the problem.
- Concrete and Stucco:
Depending on temperature and humidity, concrete and stucco can take from 3 to 10 days to cure. As a result, it may seem as though we have abandoned the project when, in fact, we are just waiting out the curing period so that we may continue work.
- Lighting:
Our outdoor lighting systems are designed to code and specifications, and are installed to ensure proper placements. Alexon Design and Landscaping only installs Nightscaping fixtures and transformers. They are the original low voltage lighting company in America. Nightscaping transformers have a lifetime warranty, and fixtures have a 10-year warranty. If you wish to have a different brand installed, material will have to purchased by the homeowner, and will not be warranted.
- Paint:
Alexon Design and Landscaping uses professional painters only. Homeowners are required to provide the paint color and/or code number. Any matches that would be required will be an additional charge of $300.00. Stucco items may need to cure for up to 28 days. Payment in full may be required before paint is completed.
